Planespotting, a Peculiar Hobby

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Spotters are a separate breed. Many people would indeed wonder what makes it so attractive to write down airplane registrations. Well, it’s a hobby. Nothing more and nothing less. Or is it?

The term ’spotter’ applies not only to planespotters. There are also spotters who take pictures and write down numbers of trains, buses and ships, for example.

Die-hard spotters will go a long way for their hobby, sometimes literally. They could easily travel a great distance just to ‘log’ a particular aircraft. A rare aircraft mostly, of which there are only a couple in the whole world (such as the Antonov An-225) or a plane from an exotic airline operating on the other side of the world that is on a delivery flight.

Pure spotters ‘log’ registrations. They have complete logbooks with airline fleets, in which they mark off a plane when they see it for the first time. They might take photographs as well, but seeing the actual aircraft and writing down its number is their main goal.

I have always been interested in aviation, and I started to photograph airplanes when I was about ten years old. In my case, I go more for a nice picture than for the registration. However, I do take a note of the registration whenever I can read it on the picture. It is quite interesting to do, as you end up ‘collecting’ various aircraft of an airline this way and might end up having photographs of all the planes in the fleet. And once that is achieved, you will want to catch any new plane that joins the fleet as well. Often airplanes change owners during their operational lives and you might get pictures of the same plane in the colours of various companies, with or without the same registration.

Another nice aspect is when an airline changes the livery, or the company colours, and you have pictures of the same airplane in two or more different colour schemes of the same airline. Some airlines paint their aircraft in special colours, to commemorate the company’s anniversary for example. Logojets are airplanes that are either painted in another company’s colours, such as a car rental company’s, and also planes painted in a special scheme of the airline alliance the company belongs to. Airlines that belong to the Star Alliance for example have one or more aircraft in their fleet flying around in special colours, which consist of a dark blue tail with the star logo, ‘Star Alliance’ written in large letters over the fuselage and the airline’s name in smaller letters in the front of the fuselage. Another trend is painting the aircraft in retro schemes, which means that the planes are painted in a previous livery of the airline. This makes for an interesting combination of a modern plane bearing old colours.

I think spotting is a great hobby and as an aviation enthusiast love to visit airports to take pictures. It is also a hobby that brings many people together. Spotters organise meetings to visit spotting locations together and share valuable information.

Via the website mentioned below you can download the FREE ‘Spotter’s Guide to the World’s Top Ten Airports’.

Levent Bergkotte’s site http://www.aircraftspotting.net contains tons of information for spotters, including airport spotting locations, aircraft and airline info and aviation news. There is also an airplane photo gallery and an aviation forum.

Home Business With Real Bite

Monday, April 7th, 2008

The company that created the home business-training program, Make Money or Make Excuses, Mentors on a Mission have launched a marketing system technology that will help to transform the home based business arena.

Officially launched on September 1, 2006, The Predator Marketing System is set to help in easing the battle 95% of home business owner’s face - namely the need to target a specific market, find the prospect, create a sale and then close a sale. In addition to this, many starting out in the home-based business arena are potentially faced with negative cash flow, inexperience and no system generating a regular flow of visiting prospects to their product and service web site.

This is perhaps why the Predator Marketing System is such a hot topic, as its principal purpose of operation is to assist in eradicating these all too common problems faced by those running a business online. The fear of rejection seems to be an all too common ingredient for many online business operators, though the Predator System is set to play a major role in many online entrepreneurs developing a professional and successful approach to running their business.

The Predator Marketing System is a Lead Generation System combined with an extensive Internet Marketing Training program that’s included with either a Gold or Platinum entry level.

All Predator members have daily access to The Members on a Mission Development and Training Web Conferencing. This cutting edge support and training provides each member with the ability to generate free leads, search engine optimisation (SEO), Blogging and No Cost Marketing to name a few. The Predator Marketing System principal could perhaps be best aligned to the adage that if you can teach a man to fish he will feed himself for a lifetime.

Unlike some automated systems on the Internet, the Predator does not promote the use of ad packs that can often range up to $200 per month with little or nil result in terms of legitimate prospects turning into sales. The Predator System does however charge $42 per month for the utilisation of its marketing system training and support network - appropriately recommended as opposed to being expected as far as the Predator Group is concerned.

Each member also benefits from professional sale representatives following up and closing sales with lead prospects generated from the members Predator site. Every time the Predator system closes a sale for a member, he or she stands to earn $1000 - $3000.

What makes this system so unique? Why would someone want to commit to becoming a Predator Marketing System member? In addition to this win-win proven system for members to earn income, each Predator member has the ability to promote an additional six products or services on their marketing portal. Allowing this technology to create an increasing momentum of quality purchasers to your business proves to be of great benefit to any entrepreneur with an existing product or service.

Michigan Football Tickets - Do They Hold The Same Value As 10 Years Ago?

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Over time, Michigan football tickets have become special for many reasons. The Wolverines not only have the most wins for a college football program in the United States, but as of this writing they also have the highest winning percentage of any major college team. For over 100 years, the Wolverines have been winning in a big way, counting over 850 victories to their credit during that time.

However, the Wolverines have “struggled” a bit in recent years as teams in the Big Ten have begun to compete with them on a regular basis. There does need to be a disclaimer in place, however, in that an “off” year for the Wolverines would be an outstanding season for most other programs. Regardless, Michigan fans have come to expect a certain level of dominance over time, and a look at the past few seasons may show why the perception is that the team isn’t the “premier” program it once was.

The Start of the Perceived “Decline”

The Wolverines won their first “Modern Era” national championship in 1997 after finishing an undefeated season. It was the pinnacle for a program that had won six Big Ten titles in the previous 10 seasons, and the Wolverines were heroes to students, fans and alumni all over the world. Players such as Brian Griese and Charles Woodson were the stars of that team, and the program appeared to be as strong as ever.

The team had another strong year in 1998 when they won another Big Ten title, but did not go to the Rose Bowl that year due to a tiebreaker rule. They followed that season with another strong 10-2 record in 1999 but failed to win the Big Ten, finishing behind Wisconsin, who went to the Rose Bowl and represented the Big Ten with a victory.

It was the dawn of the 21st Century that led to fans and alumni grumbling that the program was starting to “decline.” You wouldn’t have known it based on sales of Michigan football tickets, as the “Big House” was and is still packed for every game with over 100,000 fans. However, the Wolverines lost three games in 2000 and did not advance to the Rose Bowl.

2001 led to more grumbling, as the team lost four games, including losses to hated rivals Michigan State and Ohio State. They also lost to Tennessee in the Florida Citrus Bowl. The Wolverines lost three games in each of the next three seasons, and an even more troubling trend began to emerge - the Wolverines had lost their recent dominance over the Buckeyes. This, perhaps more than any other factor, has led to dissatisfaction among Wolverine fans.

The bottom appeared to fall out in 2005, when the team posted a 7-5 record and lost to Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio State and Nebraska. 7-5 may be a good record for most programs, but it’s unacceptable in Ann Arbor, and Coach Lloyd Carr is feeling the heat these days.

The “Decline” in Reality

A look at the numbers shows a slight, but not rapid, decline in Michigan’s winning percentage. Since they began to play football in 1883, the Wolverines won 75% of their games. Since 2001, Michigan is 44-18, which still results in a 70% winning percentage. So then, why do fans perceive the Wolverines to be in decline? Probably two reasons more than any others - they have not been beating Ohio State with regularity, losing three of the last four games against the Buckeyes. They have also lost 11 games in the past three years, which is more than fans are accustomed to.

What does all of this mean? First, the program is not in decline. They had a tough year in 2005, but that will most likely look like an aberration 10 years from now. Secondly, Michigan football tickets are as special as they ever have been.

Smallville (Season 1) DVD Review

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Leaping onto the television landscape in Fall 2001, Smallville follows the exploits of a young Clark Kent in the years leading up to his emergence as the beloved Superman. Following a slew of TV renditions of the character’s life since the comic book first appeared, Smallville sets itself apart by focusing on the lesser discussed niche of Clark’s earliest developmental days. Superb casting and consistent writing have combined to make Smallville one of the more popular shows on television (especially in international markets), making the show one of the WB network’s most successful creations to date…

Tom Welling stars in the imminent role of teenager Clark Kent, a refugee from the dying planet of Krypton. His ship having landed in the rural American town of Smallville, Clark is raised by locals Martha (Annette O’Toole) and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider - of Dukes of Hazzard fame) as their own son. Unlike some of the film and TV spin-offs, Smallville attributes powers to other individuals in the area as a result of some of the debris associated with Krypton’s destruction. As a result, Clark is forced to keep his own powers a secret while battling against other individuals who are more powerful than traditional human criminal elements. The show also provides a glimpse into the early friendship experienced between Clark and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) as well as Clark’s romance with two high school classmates, Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). Part sci-fi fantasy and part teenage soap, Smallville is an instant television classic…

The Smallville DVD (Season 1) offers a number of exciting episodes including the series premiere in which the stage for the series is set by recounting the story of Clark’s voyage to earth in the aftermath of Krypton’s destruction. Clark meets Lex Luthor for the first time as well as a human mutated by the strange green rocks which accompanied Clark’s spacecraft in the meteor shower… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include “Hourglass” in which the green rocks enable one man to reverse the aging process so that he can seek revenge on his enemies, and “Stray” in which a runaway kid named Ryan has the power to read minds, prompting his stepparents to attempt to exploit him for financial gain…

The Most Important Things That You Need To Know Before Getting Japanese Kanji Symbols For Kanji Tattoo Designs

The Most Important Things That You Need To Know Before Getting Japanese Kanji Symbols For Kanji Tattoo Designs

Today, thousands of people from western countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and from most of European countries have already some Japanese Kanji symbols tattooed into their skin. In other interesting cases, the Japanese Kanji symbols are often placed on cards, cars, motorcycles, and other personal things to express their uniqueness. Most of those people are eager to find a way of having one, or information about the Japanese Kanji symbols.

For those who have considered themselves more unique than others, or who want to stand out from the crowd, having a tattoo designed with the Japanese Kanji symbols seems to be one of the best solutions for them, because of the fact that the Japanese Kanji symbols have three distinctive features; form, sound, and meaning. Kanji is a set of ideographic alphabets which represents concepts and ideas, by which you can easily put your thoughts and ideas in the Kanji symbols used. This is why Kanji tattoos have gotten so popular among unique people all over the world.

With a Kanji tattoo, you can express how unique and special you are considering these features of Kanji symbols mentioned above. When having your name, a word or phrase translated into Kanji symbols, therefore, it is extremely important to choose accurate and appropriate ones that convey the meaning you wish to express with the Kanji tattoo.

Why am I saying this here? Because I have seen so many people who unfortunately have wrongly-put Kanji symbols tattooed, or have them tattooed upside down in their skin! I really want you to avoid this kind of situation. Also, beware of picking wrong Kanji symbols scattered across the Web, and some of the Japanese name generators that you can access for free, which may only cost you in the end.

In order for you to avoid this situation, I would strongly recommend consulting with a native speaker of Japanese who has a solid knowledge of the Japanese Kanji system. Based on my research on this subject, Your-Name-In-Japanese.com would be the best solution to this. Mr. Ken Suzuki, the operator of this site, is a native speaker of Japanese, and has been a reliable Japanese translator for many years. In case you decided to create a Kanji tattoo on your own, it is always safer for you have a Japanese translator check the Kanji symbols you are going to use, or consult a reliable resource like “The Image Dictionary of 500 Japanese Symbols for Creative People.”

Either way, just be sure to have the Kanji symbols that you are going to use for your tattoo checked by a professional Japanese translator.

MLM Scams And Pyramid Schemes

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

What is an MLM, Multilevel Marketing Company or Network Marketing Company? It is simply any company that pays it’s members on more than one level. In other words you get a percentage of the sales of any person you introduce into the company. Now that you know this, how many Multilevel Marketing Companies do you belong to?

By the way, which is better, a company that pays on one level only, two levels, three levels or more? I choose “or more”

What is a Pyramid Scheme? A Pyramid Scheme is any organization shaped like a Pyramid. Usually the person at the top makes the most money. Oh, doesn’t that sound bad, or does it? Do you know any companies that are shaped like a Pyramid where the person at the top gets paid the most? Are they scams?

Examples of Pyramid Schemes are the Army, the Church, the Police, your Insurance Company, your Schools and Government. Probable any company in the world. Yes, they are usually shaped like a pyramid with heaps of people at the bottom trying to get to the top. Why? Because the guy at the top makes the most money! Where does his money come from? What do they sell? Think about it.

Most of them sell things you can’t even see, touch or smell. Some take your money without even asking, some give you the product after you die! But that’s OK, isn’t it? They are legal everyday neighborhood organizations. So when you hear the word Pyramid in association with some organization, remember you are surrounded by them and often rely on them.

Perhaps the word “Scheme” sounds bad? The definition of Scheme is: “A systematic plan of action”. I hope that you have a “A systematic plan of action” to make money. Do you? Or are you just going from home to the office everyday not making headway in your Pyramid shaped company?

The only thing you need to know about any group or organization that you ever join is whether they are legal or not. Their structure is of no importance.

Show me someone who doesn’t like Multilevel Marketing and I will show you someone who lacks knowledge and or intelligence. Some people are like slinkies, they have no real purpose in life but they give you a smile when you push them down the stairs.

I’ve been with a lot of Multilevel Marketing companies, some I made a lot of money with, some disappeared, some suddenly changed their operations, some were not worth the trouble and some I could have made a lot of money with if I had have been smart enough at the time. Like a man who gets courage from having the life scared out of him the first time, so comes knowledge not so much from success but from failure. You’ll learn more from people who have failed than from people who have succeeded. Why? You’ll know what not to do!

If you know of anyone who has failed in Multilevel Marketing, ask them how they did it! Try to get past their poor excuses of blaming the products or the company. If the company is still operating and successful then the problem hardly lies with the company.

The shape of a business or it’s nicknames shouldn’t scare anyone away from taking the opportunity of getting out of the daily home to office rat race and onto the beaches of the world. Multilevel Marketing may very well be your only ticket, choose your ticket well and be very wary of well meaning people who do not want you to do better than them! The people who will kill your dreams and goals are often your good friends or relatives. They mean well, but they won’t pay your bills.

Success in Multilevel Marketing is being able to get out of the rat race and living your life your way without financial worries and dependance on others. Money is not everything, unless you don’t have it.

The 10 Most Rampant Computer Viruses

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Every day new computer viruses are created to annoy us and to wreak havoc on our computer systems. Below are ten viruses currently cited as being the most prevalent in terms of being seen the most or in their ability to potentially cause damage. New viruses are created daily. This is by no means an all inclusive list. The best thing you can do is to remain vigilant, keep your anti-virus software updated, and stay aware of the current computer virus threats.

Virus: Trojan.Lodear
A Trojan horse that attempts to download remote files. It will inject a .dll file into the EXPLORER.EXE process causing system instability.

Virus: W32.Beagle.CO@mm
A mass-mailing worm that lowers security settings. It can delete security-related registry sub keys and may block access to security-related websites.

Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban
A Trojan horse that allows the compromised computer to be used as a covert proxy and which may degrade network performance.

Virus: W32/Netsky-P
A mass-mailing worm which spreads by emailing itself to addresses produced from files on the local drives.

Virus: W32/Mytob-GH
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform. Messages sent by this worm will have the subject chosen randomly from a list including titles such as: Notice of account limitation, Email Account Suspension, Security measures, Members Support, Important Notification.

Virus: W32/Mytob-EX
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH. W32/Mytob-EX runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels. This virus spreads by sending itself to email attachments harvested from your email addresses.

Virus: W32/Mytob-AS, Mytob-BE, Mytob-C, and Mytob-ER
This family of worm variations possesses similar characteristics in terms of what they can do. They are mass-mailing worms with backdoor functionality that can be controlled through the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network. Additionally, they can spread through email and through various operating system vulnerabilities such as the LSASS (MS04-011).

Virus: Zafi-D
A mass mailing worm and a peer-to-peer worm which copies itself to the Windows system folder with the filename Norton Update.exe. It can then create a number of files in the Windows system folder with filenames consisting of 8 random characters and a DLL extension. W32/Zafi-D copies itself to folders with names containing share, upload, or music as ICQ 2005a new!.exe or winamp 5.7 new!.exe. W32/Zafi-D will also display a fake error message box with the caption “CRC: 04F6Bh” and the text “Error in packed file!”.

Virus: W32/Netsky-D
A mass-mailing worm with IRC backdoor functionality which can also infect computers vulnerable to the LSASS (MS04-011) exploit.

Virus: W32/Zafi-B
A peer-to-peer (P2P) and email worm that will copy itself to the Windows system folder as a randomly named EXE file. This worm will test for the presence of an internet connection by attempting to connect to http://www.google.com or http://www.microsoft.com. Earning Money With Paid Surveys

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Can you really earn money taking surveys? The answer is YES! We’ve all seen them, advertisements, banner ads, even spam emails promising us extra cash just for taking the time to fill out a survey. But how much can you really make? What exactly do these companies want in return? Read on below to find out.

First, the survey companies actually do get a lot in return for their money. Whether they are researching and developing new products or experimenting with new advertising methods for existing products, the information these companies gleam from your consumer responses is invaluable to them. They can use your responses to find the right market for their product, gauge interest in certain products and even test advertising before they spend a huge amount of money on a national advertising campaign. Not only do the companies get a goldmine of information from consumer responses, but they can even use the aggregate information to form very specific ideas of what a certain market segment wants or needs. Consumer testing and surveys are one of the most important methods of research and testing that the big brand names use to research, develop and market their products, it’s a win-win for them, for the consumer and for the people taking the surveys.

There are different types of paid surveys and they each have their own pros and cons, I’ll list the two major types below:

Surveys For Cash - This type of survey is the most prized, because you give them your time and they pay you in real money. These survey companies will usually send you a check, but some of them send actual cash in the mail. Ranging from $2, $5 all the way up to $10 and $20. Higher payouts happen, but they are more rare and usually require much more time and information from you, such as keeping a daily journal of your shopping habits, Internet surfing habits or your banking habits or testing out actual products.

Surveys For Rewards - Some survey companies will offer you points for each survey you take, say 50 points or 500 points. Then these points can be redeemed for products, gift certificates, gift cards, airline miles and other items. Sometimes, the points can even be redeeemed for cash. There are more of these types of survey programs available since you must commit some time to faithfully taking the surveys they send in order to gain enough points to be redeemed for something worthwhile. However, these companies tend to send more surveys than the companies that pay cash, so you may have more opportunities to redeem your accumulated points for a cash or a tangible prize in the end.

Avoiding The Scams

Most survey companies are legitimate, but some you may want to watch out for. Listed below are some ways to make sure you are taking surveys for legitimate companies:

Reputation - Before signing up for a survey program, check it’s reputation by doing a bit of research to make sure the company actually pays it’s members or sends out their prizes. You can check with the Better Business Bureau online, check Google and the many message boards and forums dedicated to taking surveys and making money online in general. It should take you just a few minutes to find out if a company is for real or is just collecting information to spam you.

Privacy Policy - Make sure the site has a clearly stated privacy policy and be sure to read it carefully. Make sure they aren’t going to keep and sell your personal information to third parties and that the information you do give is used for reasonable purposes.

Survey Directories - You can find some excellent listings of paid survey companies on the web. These directories will often have a description and review of each company. You’ll often be able to see what types of payment or prizes they offer. Be sure to check these out. An excellent paid online survey directory is PaidSurvey24.com.

Helpful Tools

There are some helpful tools available for those that would like to take surveys but don’t type very fast or well. One of the best is the Google Toolbar. It’s completely free and installs right to your browser. Once it’s installed, you should click the OPTIONS tab on the bar and check the box next to AUTOFILL. Then click the AUTOFILL SETTINGS button and fill in all the information there. This enables the autofill form tool so that you can fill out forms asking for your name, address, email address etc. just once and then you can simply click the AUTOFILL button on your browser to fill in each of these fields. Extremely handy and a HUGE timesaver! With the Google toolbar, you can also search Google without having to go to Google’s main page, so you can research paid survey companies even more easily. You can get it from Google’s site, just go to their main page and click on MORE, then EVEN MORE and then click on TOOLBAR.

In summary, while you may not be able to make a living taking surveys, you certainly can make some extra money and earn some nice prizes. So the question is not, why would you want to take paid surveys, it’s why wouldn’t you want to take paid surveys?! It’s easy, often fun and has many benefits! Good luck!
