UPDATE: Just wanted to let you all know, I have recently found one of the greatest books on fat lost available. It’s called Fat Loss For Idiots. Yes it sounds funny like many of those “idiot books” but just like the other “idiot books” this book rocks! It is a great book on fat loss, straight and simple! I got the book, and not only was it a fun read, I lost 20 pounds in the last 2 months and have not gained it back at all! I really recommend you check out Fat Loss For Idiots among any other weight loss book out there.

PAIN! There is was again - Excruciating pain in my chest. Was I having a heart attack? Was I dying? I had this pain about one month before, but it went away and I kind of “blew it off”. Now it was back. It was the middle of the night and I didn’t want to wake up my husband, so I sneaked out of bed and went into our bathroom. Once in there I realized that not only was I in pain but I was sick - throwing up, uncontrollably sick. I stayed in there the rest of the night, “cuddled up” to the toilet. By morning I was throwing up bile. By this time I was pretty sure that I wasn’t having a heart attack. Of course when my husband woke up and realized what was going on, he called our doctor and told him we were on the way.

After four days in the hospital and minus one gallbladder, I returned home. Once my husband knew I wasn’t about to die, he confronted me. While checking in at the doctor’s office he had seen my weight -193 pounds! “I had no idea that you weighed that much!” said my kind husband (I guess I carry my weight well!). Two weeks later I received the same sort of comment from my doctor. “Okay,” he said, “Your crisis is over, it is time to TALK”. (I hate it when men say that!) And talk we did. “You have to get rid of this weight”, was his bottom line statement.
Of course I knew I was overweight; and to make matters worse I work in a hospital. Every day, I see firsthand the link between carrying too much weight and conditions like diabetes, heart trouble, high blood pressure and stroke. So after much procrastination and a few more “random instances of conviction”, I finally started to “DIET”.
Diet, ugh, how we all hate that word. My first challenge was to do a mindset change. To realize that this was not something I was going to do for one month, stop, and then go back to my old ways. I had to come up with an attitude about life and eating for life. Because of the way I think — analytically — and because of my hospital experience, it was easy for me to approach eating from a scientific point of view. I understood the very real link between sugars, carbohydrates and insulin and how fluctuations in these made me feel. I did research and combined various approaches to healthy eating. Eating well required planning ahead and buying foods that were good for me. I had to stop eating foods that were hurting my body chemically. Did you know that everything you eat affects your body’s chemistry as well as your hormones and metabolism? Learning this was critical.

I combined principals from several major diet programs and came up with a plan. It was not easy, but I was motivated. The changes in my eating began to pay off quickly and within FIVE MONTHS I had lost FORTY THREE Pounds! After about four weeks my husband and teen age daughter both joined me in this new way of eating. They, too have lost quite a bit of weight! The best part of all of this — my blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure have all come down. And I feel great!
